About Eastport, NY:
The city of Eastport dates back to the 1730s when a gristmill was built there. Initially, the area was split into two hamlets, Seatuck and Waterville. In the 1850s, they applied for a post office using the name of Seatuck but were denied as it was too similar to an existing city, Setauket, and the area was renamed to its modern day moniker. Duck farming became central to Eastport with as many as 29 farms located in the area. Over time, duck farming in Eastport waned and by the late 1970s most farms were gone. Today, Eastport's biggest attraction are its antique shops that line Main St.
